Heike Weber teaches and researches in the field of “Culture and Technology” at the TU Berlin, with a main emphasis on the history of technology. Her research covers the history of technology, consumption and environment of the 19th and 20th century. In 2006, she received her PhD with a work on the development and usage of portable media electronics. Thereafter, she has taught at different universities and was a guest researcher in Washington D.C. (National Museum of American History, Smithsonian) and Paris (Centre de recherches historiques at the EHESS). Her present project analyzes the leftovers of consumption, the so-called household waste, in a historical perspective. It will treat the practices and technologies of disposing as well as those of re-using and recycling for mundane consumer goods and materials.
